Means Test
Important Information regarding the Means Test
The first part of the means test checks whether your household income is below your state’s median income. You will want to gather all of your income over the past six months. You can get an idea of your state’s median income on this chart from the Department of Justice. The second part covers your expenses over the past six months (things such as rent, groceries, clothing and medical costs). What’s left after allowable expenses is deemed disposable income that could be put toward paying off debt. You will want to be thorough and accurate when completing these forms.
From there, you can work to resolve your debts through bankruptcy. With over 30 years of experience, Scott Humble has helped thousands of residents with various legal matters, including bankruptcy.
